Event Information: We know that the University of Iowa is home to students and individuals from across the globe and, as with all of our sports, we encourage everyone to participate in Intramural Sports. What makes this event unique is that participating teams will represent different countries and cultures by naming their team after them, much like the FIFA World Cup. For example, participants having any affiliation or attraction to Country X will form a team and participate on team "X." We know that sports provide opportunities to bring groups of people together and we are hoping to do this by utilizing the world's most popular game, Soccer.
Information: Pre-Registration begins on Monday, Aug.19 at 8 a.m. During Pre-Registration, captains can start their teams, and begin sending invitations to teammates to build the roster. Once official registration opens on Tuesday, Nov. 5 at 8 a.m., teams that meet the minimum player requirements (four players on the team roster) can select a division to complete registration. Teams must select their divisions before registration closes on Wednesday, Nov. 13 at 11:59 p.m. Selecting a division cannot be done until minimum player requirements have been met. Instructions on how to start a team, or how to join a team, can be found on our IMLeagues Registration Instructions page.
Sport Date and Time: The World Cup Soccer Tournament will take place on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 16-17. Games on each day will begin at 1 p.m. and run until approximately 7 p.m. Saturday will be pool play and Sunday will be bracket play. With maximum registration, two pools will play games at 1, 3, and 5 p.m. while the other two pools will play at 2, 4, and 6 p.m.
Leagues Available: Open is the only league available for the World Cup Soccer Tournament. An "Open" league means there are no gender requirements for team composition.
Sport Location: Matches will take place at the Hawkeye Tennis & Recreation Complex (HTRC). Information on how to get to the HTRC from campus can be found here.
Sport Format: Following registration, teams will be placed into three-team "Pools." Each team will play the other two teams in its division. The top two teams in each three-team division will advance to bracket play on Sunday to determine the champion.
